Information Literacy (1/28)

It's Friday!!!!

Here's today's agenda (copy it into your planner please):

1) WARM UP: Calculation Nation

-Read the article
-Open a Word Document
-Answer this question:
Does the government have the right to tell you when you
can or cannot use your cellphone or ipod? Give three reasons
why or why not and cite from the text (at least 8 sentences)
-save to the computer and upload it to Gaggle by going to "Zoho Docs"
and clicking on "add file" icon.

4) BLOGGING ASSIGNMENT
-look in your Gaggle account under "Zoho Docs" for the
blogging assignment I shared with you
-1 source= 1 tool= 1 blog entry (this is your 4th blog entry)
-DUE Tuesday (need 5 total blog entries)

Objective: SWBAT demonstrate their understanding of internet tools by completing a blog entry for each tool that is being evaluated AAPOAL.

Information Literacy (1/26)

Here's the agenda for today (please copy it into your planner):

-Which one's your favorite?!?!

2) UMAPPER
-This is the map I created (Australia)
-Try playing mine first and then play others on the site.

3) CREATE A MAP GAME
-choose a country OR region OR continent to map (you will need to use
Google Maps to help you create the game)
-use UMapper
-click on "start mapping" (right corner)
-fill information (title, description, map provider)
-zoom the map into your region/country/continent
-place points of interests on your map

4) BLOGGING ASSIGNMENT (see last Tues agenda)
-1 source= 1 tool= 1 blog entry
-check your Gaggle account for the assignment sheet


SWBAT demonstrate their understanding of UMapper by creating their own geography game AAPOAL.

1) WARM UP: Calculation Nation

2) READ ARTICLE: Google Science Fair
-After reading the article, do the following:
Create one question about the text that requires you to make
an inference or extend your thinking beyond the text. Respond
to your question. Consider question stems such as I wonder why,
Compare, Contrast, Imagine, Predict...

-copy, paste, and complete the problem in a Word Document
-raise your hand for me to check your work before you print

3) BLOGGING LESSON
-Log into Gaggle (see the board)
-At the bottom of the applications list, click on the "Training Videos"
icon
-Scroll down and click on "#22: Creating Your New Blog"
-watch the 4 minute video

4) CREATING YOUR FIRST BLOG
-Review all 11 sites
-Create a blog entry answering the following question:
-Out of the 11 Math sites, which site would you use in your Math class to
improve your learning and the learning of your classmates? Explain why it
would help you.

1) WARM UP: First in Math or Calculation Nation

2) EVALUATING SOURCES
-Go to 10 Cool New Sites
-Choose 5 sites you would like to evaluate.
-Answer the following questions during your evaluations:
Authority:
a) Who created this website? How do you know they can be
trusted? Do they have training, professional skill, or expertise
to provide this information? Do they cite their sources?
If so, provide 2 examples of sources they used.
Content:
b) What information does this site provide? Why was it created?
Do they provide you with enough information? What did you
learn from this site? What could others learn about this site?

Reliability:
c) Is this information up to date? How do you know? Are these real
numbers and facts? Do they match reality? How do we know they
are real and on target?

Design:
d) Can you find what you need at this site relatively quickly or is it
loaded down with graphics and elements which prolong your
visit and your searching unnecessarily? Is the information laid
out in a logical fashion so that you can easily locate what you
need without wandering around and wasting time?

2) GAGGLE
-Go to my website
-Scroll down to "Attachments"
-Download "Gaggle Scavenger Hunt"
-AS A CLASS, we will learn:
a) how to login into Gaggle
b) how to change profile
c) how to add friends
d) appropriate online behavior
-Complete the "Gaggle Scavenger Hunt"

SWBAT demonstrate their understanding of Gaggle and its tools by completing the Gaggle worksheet AAPOAL.
